RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust - Toronto, Ontario
Through the Diamond Corporation, STSD Inc was retained to work in conjunction with Page & Steele Architects and the BA Group to redesign and redevelop an existing underperforming shopping centre complex into a high end condominium community. This is the first of four redevelopments occurring in the Toronto area. STSD Inc formed part of the design team and added comment and design features to address security and safety concerns. STSD Inc attended a community meeting to explain and present the security and design strategies to the existing community.
Stantec Consulting - Four Seasons Centre for Performing Arts
Toronto, Ontario
At the request of Stantec and the Canadian Opera Centre, STSD Inc provided a detailed security analysis and provided recommendations to incorporate into the design and architectural drawings for the new Opera House. STSD Inc.
identified potential threats relating to access control, surveillance, public transit, terrorism, mixed
and illegitimate use.
Shell Canada - Calgary, Alberta
STSD Inc worked closely with the Shell Architectural Team (Canada) to identify key security and safety strategies that could be implemented into the standard design of all new Shell Convenience / Gas stations across Canada. Through our experience and expertise, STSD Inc was able to provide specific strategies with respect to the building design and layout to address robbery prevention, safety for employees, protection of assets and means to reduce overall liability.
Canada Post - Ottawa, Ontario
At the request of Canada Post, STSD Inc reviewed two separate floor plan designs of proposed Canada Post retail outlets that were to be implemented across Canada. STSD Inc provided recommendations with respect to access control, surveillance, robbery prevention and actual design and placement for interior office equipment and furniture. The goal was to ensure the safety and security of the Canada Post employees and customers while at the same time not creating a negative impact on the revenue generation.
Winnipeg Parking Authority - Winnipeg, Manitoba
STSD Inc conducted an in-depth security audit of 107 municipally owned parking lots and parkades throughout the City of Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Parking Authority was provided with a professionally printed report containing detailed recommendations on strategies to improve security and safety for their employees, clientele and the general community.
In 2007, the same study was completed to assess the impact the provided recommendations had with respect to crime, maintenance costs and revenues. A subsequent case study confirmed that crime had been reduced by 30%, revenues were increased substantially and that their parkades were full on a daily basis.
Carleton University - Ottawa, Ontario
At the request of Carleton University, STSD Inc conducted an in-depth security assessment of two parkades and the main pedestrian pathway system that supports the campus. Recommendations were provided to increase the safety and security for the student population, employees and general users of the campus and reduce opportunity for property related crimes.
City of Ottawa - Ottawa, Ontario
At the request of the City of Ottawa Parking Operations, STSD Inc was asked to conduct a Threat and Risk Assessment on the money handling procedures currently used by the city employees when collecting and handling money. The audit reviewed both the physical environment as well as the money collection policy and procedures.
Corporation of the City of Cambridge - Cambridge, Ontario
At the request of the City of Cambridge, STSD Inc has conducted three separate Security / Threat and Risk Assessments. The first involved a complete security assessment of all municipally owned parking lots within the city. The final report provided by STSD Inc was used as a basis to develop a parking standards document.
The second involved a Threat and Risk Assessment of the Canada Day Fire Works Festival. This event is the second largest of its kind in Ontario and accommodates more than 30,000 people. STSD Inc conducted a comprehensive review of the physical facilities as well as the security and safety procedures that the organizing committee implemented for the event. A detailed report was provided to the city council outlining recommendations to increase emergency response times, provide a safer event and reduce the overall liability to the city.
The third involved conducting a Threat and Risk Assessment of a large music festival. STSD Inc conducted a comprehensive review of the physical facilities as well as the process for planning and implementing the event. Recommendations were made regarding pedestrian and vehicular access control, emergency response and overall security and safety procedures.
WSI / BC Provincial Government - Victoria, British Columbia
At the request of WSI and the Provincial Government of British Columbia, STSD Inc conducted three physical security assessments on provincially owned buildings. These buildings included the main provincial administrative building, the Ministry of Transportation for the BC Government and the Public Service Agency. The assessment included all exterior areas, parking garages, common areas and high security areas.
City of Victoria - British Columbia
At the request of the City of Victoria Parking Operations, STSD Inc was asked to conduct a thorough Threat and Risk Assessment of all municipally owned parkades and surface lots. The findings addressed the physical environment, the overall safety and security of the staff and users of the facility as well as a number of security procedures. The report was used to address a number of high profile incidents that had taken place just prior to the assessment and had gained a significant amount of media attention.
Algonquin College - Ottawa, Ontario
At the request of Algonquin College, STSD Inc was asked to conduct a thorough security assessment of all parking facilities, pedestrian pathways and money collection stations. CPTED strategies were recommended regarding access control, surveillance and terriA second report was commissioned to review the threats associated to the safe collection and handling of money by staff and volunteers on campus. Both reports identified potential threats, level of risk that they posed and provided solutions to reduce them to an acceptable level.
Frank Cowen Company and St. John’s Kilmarnock High School
Kitchener, Ontario
At the request of Frank Cowen Company, STSD Inc was asked to conduct a thorough Threat and Risk Assessment of the pedestrian and traffic flow patterns that entered the main access route for St. John’s Kilmarnock High School. STSD Inc was able to identify and provide solutions to reduce threats to staff and students and through CAD drawings, redesign the entrance to the school and all parking lots.
Hamilton Health Sciences - Hamilton, Ontario
At the request of Hamilton Health Sciences, STSD Inc was commissioned to conduct three separate security related reports for the hospital. The first involved working closely with the architectural team and staff to review and provide security recommendations for the design of a new surface parking lot. The hospital wanted to ensure that all protective measures possible were implemented at the design stage to increase the safety of the hospital staff and visitors that would access the lot at all hours of the day.
The second report involved the STSD Inc Team working with the hospital’s architectural firm and an internal working committee of the hospital to design and review the interior space of a proposed new mental health facility. STSD Inc was able to provide lasting security solutions to decrease the implied threats associated to both the staff and patients that would occupy the space.
The third involved a comprehensive security assessment of their main parking facilities from the different hospital campuses. STSD Inc was able to provide recommendations on access control, natural and mechanical surveillance, maintenance, signage and lighting. The report was used as a basis to establish future budgets and upgrades to the hospital.
College of the Rockies - Cranbrook, British Columbia
At the request of the College of the Rockies, STSD Inc was asked to provide a physical security audit of the Cranbrook Campus with the main goal being the design and implementation for a CCTV system. STSD Inc provided detailed CAD drawings that identified critical security and safety areas that required CCTV cameras, what type of cameras as well as provided a detailed security audit report. The College of the Rockies used the provided report and documentation to source out CCTV equipment as well as make substantial changes to their security on site.
London Health Sciences Centre - London, Ontario
 At the request of the London Health Science Centre, STSD Inc. conducted a physical security assessment of the hospitals Mental Health Ward, a review of their daily security practices, policy and procedures in relation to the care of mental health patients. The report provided recommendations for physical security upgrades, reviewed security staffing levels and provided recommendations for changes to the security policies and procedures.
In 2009, STSD Inc was engaged to assist with the design of a new parkade being built at the Victoria campus. STSD Inc worked closely with the architectural firm, electrical engineers and landscape architects to provide security and safety strategies for the parkade. These strategies included design concepts, access control, CCTV and other emergency equipment, landscaping and identification of potential threats within the community.
Bridgepoint Health
 At the request of Bridgepoint Health, STSD Inc was asked to review the site plans and design for a temporary exterior parking lot that was to be constructed to support staff parking while the hospital underwent major construction. STSD Inc was also asked to provide security recommendations that could be implemented at the site to mitigate concerns of youth loitering, drug activity, prostitution and overall concerns for personal safety.

 At the request of St. Josephs’ Health Care, STSD Inc was commissioned to assist with the design of a new parkade being built at the Commissioners Campus. STSD Inc worked closely with the architectural firm, electrical engineers and landscape architects to provide security and safety strategies for the parkade. These strategies included CPTED design concepts, access control, CCTV and other emergency equipment, landscaping and identification of potential threats within the community.
